Frequently Asked Questions

Sausage

What is the difference between chourico and linguica?

Chourico and linguica are both smoked sausages made with lean pork and a blend of spices. Chourico is made with a beef casing which has a larger diameter. Linguica is made with a hog casing and is smaller. We make both mild and hot styles of chourico and linguica.

Is Portuguese chourico similar to Mexican or Spanish chorizo?

Yes, they are similar, but they are not the same. Portuguese chourico and Mexican/Spanish chorizo are both spiced pork sausages. However, Mexican chorizo is fresh and not fully cooked, and Spanish chorizo is cured. Portuguese chourico is a smoked sausage, so it is fully cooked and ready to eat.

Are chourico and linguica fully cooked?

Yes, unlike fresh sausages like Italian sausage or Mexican chorizo, Portuguese chourico and linguica are smoked sausages, meaning they are fully cooked and ready to eat. They are slowly cooked in a smokehouse, which gives them a great color and flavor.

What is morcela?

Morcela is a traditional Portuguese blood pudding sausage. It is commonly used in appetizers and tapas style dishes or as a breakfast side dish.

What is chourico mouro?

Chourico mouro is a traditional Portuguese smoked sausage made with pork snouts and pork hearts. It is commonly used in soups and stews for flavoring.

Ordering

How long does it take to ship a package?

It normally takes between 1-5 days in transit once a package leaves our store to arrive at its destination. The time between placing an order and its ship date can vary based on when the order was placed, the number of expected days in transit, and any possible shipping delays that carriers are experiencing. Typically, orders placed Sunday or Monday will ship in the same week, while most orders placed after that will ship the following week to avoid temperature-sensitive product being held in transit over the weekend.

How are shipping costs calculated?

UPS shipping costs are calculated by UPS based on the weight of the package being shipped and the service chosen. Due to the heavier nature of our products and the need to pack boxes with cool packs and foam insulation for safe storage, shipping costs can increase with larger orders to farther destinations. We recommend selecting USPS Flat Rate shipping for shipping destinations outside of the Northeast.

How much can I order and still get the lowest shipping cost?

The Flat Rate shipping option is typically the least expensive option for most customers. You can order up to 7 pounds of sausage items per large box. Your shipping cost would be $20 for every 7 pounds (under $3 per pound). You can order up to 4 pounds of sausage items per medium box. Your shipping cost would be $14.50 (under $4 per pound).
